Healthy and convenient! Fresh, uncooked sweet potato fries at the grocery store

mann's sweet potatoes

When food manufacturers marry up vegetables and convenience that’s what I call a winning combination.

Mann’s Sweet Potatoes does just that. What do I love most about these crinkle cut, fresh, uncooked fries? It’s the single ingredient: fresh sweet potatoes.

Don’t get me wrong, making your own fries is easy, I know but if using a time-saving product like this means you have an extra few minutes to also make a salad or get another vegetable out on the table, that’s great.

Sweet potatoes taste terrific, have 10 times more beta carotene than regular potatoes and more fibre too. Plus with this product, you are in control of how much fat and sodium you add.

Look for Mann’s Sweet Potatoes in the produce section of your grocery store. This 284 g bag (about 44 fries or 2-3 servings) cost $2.99. They are fresh, so be sure to use by the best before date.

Tasty tips:

  • Spread the fries out in a single layer on your baking sheet so they don’t steam each other up making them soggy.
  • I found the suggested 450º F oven temperature a tad too high slightly burning the smaller fries. Try 400ºF.
  • Get creative with flavouring your sweet potato fries. Rosemary, garlic or a little brush with hot sauce the last six minutes of baking are good options.  Epicurious has lots if ideas.
  • Think beyond dinner side dish. Serve with eggs at breakfast, as a snack or stuffed into a black bean burritos with salsa and avocado.

Do you have a tasty tip to share for making sweet potato fries?
