Homemade hot chocolate

After a brief flirtation with spring this past weekend, winter is back in full force. Perfect for a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Many of the store-bought mixes are too sweet for my liking, not to mention the long (and sometimes disturbing) ingredient list.

So I’ve concocted my own mix using three simple ingredients: 1 cup skim milk powder, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1/4 cup sugar. Place the ingredients in a 500 mL mason jar. Give the jar a good shake to mix well.

Add a heaping tablespoon of the mix to one cup of hot milk. The skim milk powder gives the hot chocolate an extra shot of calcium. Top with a couple of mini-marshmallows, grab a good book, and you’re all set for a cozy afternoon.
