5 Fab ways to love Qi’a

I love attending the Grocery Innovations Canada conference where I get a sneak peak at new products.  I’ll be featuring a few of them over the next few months on this blog.  First up is Qi’a (pronounced Kee-ah). Qi’a is new to the familiar Nature’s Path TM no GMO breakfast cereal line and comes in three flavours:

  • apple cinnamon
  • cranberry vanilla
  • original

Talk about clean ingredient list! The apple cinnamon variety I tried contains: chia seeds, hemp seeds and buckwheat groats (yup that’s a whole grain!), raisins, freeze-dried apples and cinnamon. It’s gluten and wheat-free with no added sugar or salt.

Qi’a gets a thumbs up for containing whole grains. The high fibre – protein combo helps to curb hunger too. Each 2 tbsp serving offers:

  • 6 grams protein
  • 4 grams fibre
  • 6 grams of fat (healthy fats from the seeds)
  • Just 3 grams of sugar and 130 calories

Here’s how you make it:

Add 2 tbsp cereal with 4-5 tbsp milk/soy/rice/almond beverage, stir, let stand for 5 minutes for the chia seeds to soak.

5 fab ways to love Qi’a:

  1. In a smoothie
  2. Stirred into yogurt
  3. As a hot or cold cereal
  4. As a salad topping
  5. Added to muffin recipes (tip: replace 1/8 cup flour/oats with ¼ cup Qi’a)

  1. FYI There is a Canadian product that is excellent and similar. It is organic, gluten free and called Holy Crap cereal. Worth checking the website and it is Canadian. I eat it all the time and it is super delicious. http://www.holycrap.ca Lots of good information on their website including recipes.
